BATTAMBANG: The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and UNESCO, organized a workshop to prepare documents for Battambang’s application as a member of "UNESCO's Creative Cities Network" (UCCN).

The workshop was held at the President Hotel in Battambang with the participation of the Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, Chuk Chumnor, and the Director General of Cultural Technology of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Zion Sophearith, along with UNESCO Representative to Cambodia, Masanori Nagaoka from May 23-24.

The workshop was an opportunity for all stakeholders in the project to add input to the final application for Battambang to be added to the UCCN, which was established in 2004 with the aim of promoting cooperation among cities that consider innovation an important factor in developing strategies for sustainable urban development in the economic, social, cultural and environmental sectors.

Cambodia plans to submit documents for the inclusion of Battambang City as a member of the UCCN before the deadline at the end of June 2023. The country hopes to add Siem Reap, Kratie and Kampot to the list after their push for Battambang is complete.
